Vehicles will be able to run on wine waste

TotalEnergies introduced a certified 100% sustainable fuel in FIA WEC and European Le Mans Series from 2022 onwards

The portal Diario del Motor recently published a surprising piece of news that has already been the subject of experimentation in France: could wine be the fuel of the future? Well, it seems that it could. Martin Jemes, the editor of the newspaper, explains that this technological breakthrough, inspired by racing cars, could soon find its way into conventional cars. Although it is more expensive than traditional fuel, it is an investment in a premium product that helps to reduce carbon emissions and care for the planet.

Excellium Racing 100 is an innovative biofuel made from wine production waste. France, the world's second largest wine producer, is leading this revolution. With 4.69 billion litres of French wine produced annually, it not only delights palates, but also fills fuel tanks.

At a time when energy production and use account for 70% of greenhouse gas emissions, it is imperative that the big energy players reinvent themselves through renewable and carbon-free energy.

According to TotalEnergies sources, the energy company introduced a certified 100% sustainable fuel in the FIA WEC and European Le Mans Series from 2022. Excellium Racing 100 was born after eighteen months of testing and research by its engineers. This sustainable fuel was introduced for the first time in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in March 2022 for the first race of the championship, the 1000 Miles of Sebring in the USA. Designed and manufactured by the company, Excellium is produced from bioethanol, which is obtained from wine residues from French agriculture.
